Catching expectations and hopes

The UK General Election 2024 was an opportunity for voters to decide who they wanted to govern for the next five years. The communications during the campaign were largely one-directional – the parties presenting their ideas to the people.

During the dissolution of the UK Government, from 30 May to 3 July, artist Francesca Giuliano and I collected numerous individual messages for the new government in the form of answers to four simple questions:
• Where were you born?
• Where do you live?
• Will you be voting on 4 July?
• What’s your message to the new government?

Responses were posted daily on Instagram to coincide with the party conference season. The film that follows contrasts what people have told us they want, with Sir Keir’s first speech as Prime Minister on the steps of Downing Street on 5 July 2024, explaining what his government intends to do..
